The Digital Champions Program is a forward-thinking initiative powered by YLAC (Young Leaders for Active Citizenship), aimed at empowering adolescents to build a healthy and informed relationship with technology while staying safe from the growing risks of online harm. As technology continues to play a central role in education, communication, and daily life, this program recognizes the urgent need to equip young people—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world responsibly.

In the 2023–2024 cycle, we implemented the program in partnership with 15 low-income schools across Ayodhya and Lucknow, reaching out to around 2,000 adolescents from underserved communities. These students, who often have limited access to structured digital education, were introduced to vital concepts such as digital literacy, cyberbullying prevention, online privacy, screen-time management, digital rights, and responsible social media use.

The sessions were interactive and age-appropriate, using real-life scenarios, role-plays, videos, and group discussions to make learning engaging and relatable. The goal was not only to raise awareness but also to build critical thinking and decision-making skills that would help children recognize online threats and make safer choices.

Special focus was placed on addressing the unique challenges faced by marginalized youth, such as lack of parental digital literacy, limited access to secure devices, and higher vulnerability to online exploitation. Through regular mentorship, practical exercises, and ongoing support, the program helped these adolescents gain confidence in using digital tools for learning and self-expression, while also understanding the boundaries and responsibilities of being online.
