The Peer Tutor program, powered by CYC, is an impactful community-driven initiative aimed at addressing the critical issue of school dropouts among young girls. Under this program, 10 motivated youth from the local community were carefully selected and trained to become peer tutors and mentors. These youth tutors played a vital role in guiding and supporting adolescent girls who had dropped out of school, helping them catch up academically and motivating them to rejoin the formal education system.
Over a period of nine months, the program was implemented in the slum areas of Lucknow, where educational support is often limited and the risk of girls permanently dropping out is high. The peer tutors conducted regular study sessions, offered mentorship, and created a safe, encouraging learning environment for the girls. Through their dedication and consistent efforts, the program reached and positively impacted more than 250 adolescents, equipping them with the confidence and academic skills needed to return to school and continue their education.
The Peer Tutor program not only empowered young girls to reclaim their right to education but also built leadership and teaching skills among the youth tutors, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility within the community. This initiative stands as a strong example of how peer-led, community-based interventions can bring about sustainable change at the grassroots level.
