The SMILE Program is an enriching internship initiative that aims to introduce young people to the social sector and nurture future changemakers. During the 2023–2024 cycle, the program successfully placed 60 motivated youth in 16 reputable NGOs across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Through this opportunity, the interns gained firsthand experience working at the grassroots level, addressing real community issues such as education, health, sanitation, and livelihood support. The program not only provided them with practical exposure but also encouraged them to develop empathy, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of social realities.
Among these interns, 25 exceptionally committed youth further undertook an intensive fellowship where they independently designed and executed their own social work projects. These projects addressed pressing local challenges, promoted sustainable solutions, and created tangible impact within the communities they served. By the end of the fellowship, these young changemakers emerged with enhanced leadership skills, a strong sense of civic responsibility, and valuable insights into the functioning of the development sector. The SMILE Program continues to inspire young people to contribute meaningfully to society and explore careers in social development.
